I’m Kostas Spanoudakis, a filmmaker and film director. Born and raised in Chania, Greece. While my journey began in the field of Production and Management Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, my passion for storytelling and visual artistry led me down a different path.
From a young age, I found solace behind the lens, crafting my own cinematic narratives with nothing but sheer determination and a camera in hand. At 21, I made the bold decision to pivot from engineering to pursue my dream of filmmaking. Relocating to Athens, I immersed myself in the craft, honing my skills at New York College.
During my time at New York College, I brought two of my visions to life: “The Canvas” in 2021 and “How to Light a Cigarette Without Burning Yourself” in 2022. These films became more than just projects; they were expressions of my creativity and dedication to the art form. To my delight, both were embraced by prestigious festivals in Greece, including the esteemed Drama International Short Film Festival.
One of my proudest moments came when “How to Light a Cigarette Without Burning Yourself” was awarded the Best Cinematography prize at the Drama International Short Film Festival, affirming my commitment to visual storytelling and the power of cinematic language.
I’ve also delved into various other forms of visual storytelling. Professionally, I’ve worked on documentaries, TV commercials, and music videos, leveraging my expertise not only in directing but also in the intricacies of editing, where I bring stories to life through meticulous post-production work.
Beyond the realm of filmmaking, I find joy and inspiration in music. The violin has been my companion since the tender age of 8, providing another outlet for my artistic expression and enriching my creative journey.
